Stargate Stories – Misty Powell

What would YOU send through the star gate? A thought or a prayer to a demon or a god? A message of hope or grief to the future or past...a warning...a confession?

When we think of sending something somewhere...anywhere, we think of sending something away or sending something to.

We send 'good' things or 'bad' things. Maybe we send love or fear. Maybe we've lost something or someone and want to connect with them or let go of them. That someone could be ourselves. I may argue it's ALWAYS ourselves we send. We are often either rejecting or clinging to that which we send. Since if we accepted all as is, we may not be inclined to send or act at all. So then what do we send through a portal? Through a dimension? Through any gate we know or don't know anything about? Why send at all?
Release? Comfort? Sadness? Love? I can think of all these things. My initial gut response was to send fear out, just out... away from here. This was for both love and fears' sake. Wanting and hoping that without fear people would be free to love but maybe also I contained fear of all that is a product of fear itself here in this world and this awareness.

But when I really took time to think about it, my nature really clung to sending art out. In form of energy, frequency and vibration. Simply put, I would have to send MUSIC. I love the visual forms of art also. But music transcends I believe. We see animals and other living forms respond to music. This is me sending a basic form of love. How else to communicate this to areas of consciousness that may not understand other portions of our culture or reality? It moves. The mind. The body. The heart. And if there is none of those to send music to it is the sharing that compels us. The creating. But moreover the creating to share. If we are all connected like I believe every thing ever is, not only are we sharing it with each other but ourselves. And we may expand our self awareness in the sharing. As a whole. One love as they say. So we send ourselves to ourselves. We move energy around just for the sake of it. Because we can. And that to me is the nature of life. Not good nor bad, just is. So shall I share. So shall I be.

So if I don't want to reject or cling. If I want to accept, anything I send or share or do would be art for arts sake. Which is fitting for Light Years Away. Since it is art in form of music, movement and elements. Very fitting indeed. And maybe if we could see each others sharing of themselves as the art of self expression we would cling less tightly to these ideas of separateness and duality that may create all this fear in the first place. We can't think away our fear, or send it away magically, but we can replace it little by little with each act of love. Which I may argue is true acceptance at its core. Like neural pathways strengthening with use. Each act an act of self awareness. And music may be the highest form of communication we have here right now. Maybe. It certainly is what I would want to share.

If you could share only one song, what would it be?

Share with me. Share yourself with myself. With your own self. I am a stargate.

What would YOU send through the stargate?
A thought or prayer to a god or demon. A message of hope or grief to the future or past…..a warning….a confession?

Empathy, connection, compassion, love. Are these just ideals we strive for, or are they who we are?

I like to believe the latter.

We navigate through life and come into contact with other travelers routinely. Some of them we form bonds with and we journey together---sometimes just a walk down the block, or through the park, or up a mountain. Every now and then we take longer journeys and find ourselves in a new world on the other side.

Left foot, right foot. The sound of your feet hitting the ground eventually comes into sync with the traveler beside you. At some point words fade and you feel a thread of energy connecting your hearts, minds, and bodies.

It's during these journeys that we remember who we are. We share our hopes, dreams, secrets, and vulnerabilities. We connect. We learn to carry something for our fellow traveler. Sometimes we even carry them, or vice versa.

We shouldn't be afraid of these journeys, but the inherent unknowns---where we are going, the terrain and obstacles we may face, the outside forces at work---give us pause and can make us feel uncertain or scared.

Venture into the unknown. Take the long walk. Look up at the sky and feel small. Look at your fellow traveler and feel tall. Take a chance and explore the things inside you that make you human, that connect you to others and scare you. If you don't, you'll never know where your feet may have taken you.

STOP. Just stay here a second. Let your life pause. Linger on this post for a fraction longer than you typically would. You do not have to read or engage just simply STOP, look up, look around, look within. The Stargate is time reversed, a challenging whirlwind moving in conflict with the whirlwind of our busy lives. We hardly see the effortless beauty in the world around us and scarcely acknowledge it in other human beings. We are a beautiful race filled with beautiful chaotic potential to do wonderfully good and equally wonderfully bad things. I would send a flash, a burst of light, a beacon through the Stargate to blind us in the world we think we see and have us for just a peaceful moment be aware of all our surroundings and be in touch with our every emotion.

Too often do the people I know surrender to the false busy world we all set up around ourselves to feel important and connected to ourselves, our communities, and our friends. I am as guilty as any for over planning or scheduling and foregoing the most inherent gift we have been given, freedom. I shackle my freedom by commitments and desires to do more than I really ought and probably want to do. Always go, go, going and never looking up has catapulted me into a space I sometimes hardly recognize. Through this blinding light I hope we would be reminded of our freedom, not just to choose our life but to reflect on and enjoy the life we have.

So STOP. Pause. Linger here with me a bit. Let’s forget who we are to the external world and discard our social masks for just a moment to look around. Look up to the stars and the vastness beyond our physical self to find peace in our existence as we are and not as we aim to become. When did you last have a deep meaningful conversation with a friend? Reveal a vulnerability to a lover? Communicate firmly a lacking need or fear? Give a stranger a compliment or helping hand? Or simply sit with and listen to someone else speak without interruption?

Life before the technological avalanche of our generation was a simpler time because we were unable to over schedule our daily lives and distract our minds while walking down the street in the same way. What is beyond your cell phone, computer, or TV screen at this very moment? I implore you to STOP and see the world and the people around you for something in this moment that you would not have seen at your standard passing glance. It is with this blinding light I hope to blind us of our false eyes and force us to reach all the people, all our dreams, and all the possibilities that at times can feel Light Years Away.
